¥John Pierpont Morgan Sr
¥Born in Hartford 17 April 1837. His mother the daughter of a Boston preacher, the Rev John Pierpont. Pierponts a family of merchants and farmers who came from England in
1640. Formed a business with school friend James Junius GoodwinÑthe first product was a diorama of the landing of
Columbus.
Lived with his parents in Boston then London. Went to school at Vevey in
Switzerland and the University of
Gšttingen. Toured Britain and the
Continent in 1853 when he was 16. Saw A W PuginÕs Medieval Court at the Crystal Palace and Walter ScottÕs home at Abbotsford and nearby Melrose Abbey. Also kept apartments in Paris and Rome A

¥1862 with Junius Goodwin formed a partnership under the name J. Pierpont Morgan and Company.
¥First wife died tragically. Re-married Frances Tracy and had 4 children
