Gothic Architecture

Description: The Gothic Architecture Web site was developed for Professor Stephen Murray's survey course. Architecture, by virtue of its physical complexity, is difficult to teach in the classroom using the standard dual-slide projection method. Our goal is to provide a far richer collection of images online than are shown in class due to time restrictions. Using this site, students can view a large number of images for individual buildings, including ground plans, diagrams, exterior views and interior views, to gain a greater understanding of the building based on the principles and themes discussed in class. The site also includes a number of special programs using QTVR and Flash animation. This site is part of our larger initiative to build a wide array of digital resources for the history of architecture with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
