Sam Lipsyte attracts some attention at Park Lit '06.

Throughout our three-year history, Buzzer Thirty has offered a series of fiction-writing workshops with Sam Lipsyte (Columbia University MFA Program and the author of Venus Drive, The Subject Steve, and Home Land), Laurie Stone (author of the novel Starting with Serge (Doubleday, 1990), the memoir collection Close to the Bone (Grove, 1997), and Laughing in the Dark (Ecco, 1997), a collection of her writing on comic performance) and others. Teaching is a focus of our mission and workshops covering the full range of the arts will continue to play a vital role at Buzzer Thirty.

Amy Bay, our first artist (2002)
Our annual reading series have brought together nationally-recognized authors and poets as well as emerging talents to present their works across Astoria. While we have run our own reading series in our space as well as at other locations, 2006 will mark the second year of our participation in the Park Lit series with Open City, Mr. Beller's Neighborhood, and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Buzzer Thirty has also sponsored a film and lecture series, while our exhibition openings are not to be missed. As with the readings, our projects in the visual arts have provided a space for experimental creativity bringing together up-and-coming and more well-established artists.
