Pierre Obando
Born in Belize, 1973, Pierre Obando grew up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Miami, Fl and Jackson, MS. Pierre completed his MFA at Hunter College in May 2001. At that time he made photographs of plastic crates as he found them stacked up on the sidewalks.   In the fall of 2000 he attended the Slade School in London on a study abroad grant.   While there he traveled to several English and European cities.   This travel clarified for him that his penchant for abstract form would be found in the world where it was a by-product of the desire for efficiency. His work finds use in the objects and signs of the everyday world, and attempts to make them a vehicle for a collective form of reception.   Recently he has made paintings that use the Coca-Cola and Evian trademarks.   Pierre has worked in both Painting and Photography.   His work in both of these mediums was featured in the Queens International exhibition at the Queens Museum of Art, 2004-05.
